Papal Nuncio calls Young Catholics to Public Evangelisation

At the start of this month, the Evangelium Conference 2012 took place at the Oratory school in Reading. CTS is a proud sponsor of this event and wanted to thank everyone who attended, helped organise it, or made any kind of contribution, large or small, to the undoubted success of the weekend. There follows a press release focusing on the call to action from the Papal Nuncio who celebrated Mass there on Sunday August 6th.

Archbishop Antonio Mennini, Apostolic Nuncio to Great Britain, attended this year’s Evangelium conference with over 150 young adults. He celebrated the principal Sunday mass.

In his homily Archbishop Mennini spoke about the year of Faith, called for by Pope Benedict XVI. He referred to the conference as a blessed time of reflection on the Faith and task of evangelisation. He urged the young Catholics present to consider the calling to priesthood and religious life and stressed the importance of good and generous marriages and families to show forth God’s love in a concrete way. He re-echoed the Holy Father’s call to make the Faith public by saying,

“Nowadays, when we face an aggressively secular and relativist society, our relationship with the Lord is vitally important and should shape and enlighten our words and actions, not only in the chapel but in the marketplace too”.

Evangelium is a conference to enable committed young Catholic adults to become effective evangelists and leaders in the modern world. The event was attended by a wide range of expert speakers including former Anglican bishop Mgr Andrew Burnham of the Ordinariate and the director of the Thomas More Legal Institute for the Defense of Religious Freedom, Neil Addison.

Snap up the last places at the 2012 Evangelium Conference

There are still places available at this year’s Evangelium Conference at the Oratory school in Reading.

As in previous years, the Conference is one of the stand-out events of the summer’s Catholic calendar in the UK, bringing together speakers and special guests of international fame.

The invitation is to young adults (aged 18-35), and it’s all happening from 3rd – 5th August. A mix of conferences, workshops, Q&A, prayer, worship and fun, this is a great opportunity to grow your faith and meet others who wish to do the same.

The Evangelium Conference will once again be hosted by the Oratory School in Reading

The following are just some of the many events scheduled for this year’s conference*

Each day there is Morning and Evening Prayer, Mass and many opportunities to socialise including the outstanding meals and the popular evening bar.
Sunday Mass on August 5th will be celebrated by His Excellency Archbishop Antonio Mennini, Apostolic Nuncio to Great Britain.

Follow Evangelium Conference 2011 on explaining the Catholic faith in the modern world

Evangelium Conference

The Evangelium Conference 2011 is kicking off as I write. We have posted about it over the last few weeks and now it is underway and will last until Sunday.

We have written about the speakers, including Bishop Mark Davies and world famous Catholic apologist Steve Ray. Working within the title – explaining the Catholic faith in the modern world – there is going to be an emphasis on Scripture and how the Catholic Church understands the Bible, as well as workshops and entertainment.

We will post photos and updates on our Facebook page and you can follow up to the second reports through the CTS twitter feed.

CTS on TV! Evangelium catechetical course featured on EWTN

One of ETWN’s longtime hosts, Fr Mitch Pacwa, interviewed Fr Andrew Pinsent, co-author of the Evangelium catechetical course on EWTN Live Wednesday 27th July.

The interview examined the approach of the course, which is published by CTS and available here and the general challenges and opportunities for the New Evangelisation, including the relationship of faith and science.

Fr Andrew outlines how his work in advertising before he became a priest has taught him to apply the same techniques when presenting the faith, making it attractive and comprehensible. He also points out that the faith can appeal to both sides of the brain: the left being our more mechanistic half and the right is more responsive to music, images and such like. Since Catholicism is based around the Incarnation, Fr Andrew argues, presentations of the faith must appeal to the physical as well as the intellectual side of man.

Lumen, Apologia and the relationship between science and religion also feature in the discussion.

It will be repeated on EWTN on Sunday 4am ET (9am UK).

Evangelium Conference 2011: Who is speaking and when?

The Evangelium Conference, sponsored by CTS, is taking place over the first weekend of August at the Oratory School in Reading.

For those aged 18 – 35, it aims to help Catholics explain their faith in the modern world. We can now publish the timetable, detailing the speakers and the subjects that will be discussed, other activities include daily Mass, prayer and recreation.

Many of the speakers are CTS authors, the likes of Fr Jerome Bertram and the founders of the Evangelium project, Fr Marcus Holden and Fr Andrew Pinsent.

Here is a rundown of the six major conferences being held across the weekend.

Friday 6th August
